🌿✨ From the Haven – July ✨🌿

Hi, friend.

Come sit with me for a minute.

I’ve got sourdough on the counter, dirt under my fingernails (don’t worry the two don’t mix), and somehow it’s already August.

I swear July lasted about three days… and also approximately six months. How both of those things can be true at the same time, I’ll never know.

This month felt full in the best way.

The garden exploded.

The kitchen was basically one giant sourdough experiment.

The Tailored Haven kept growing.

And we survived another month of Western Colorado trying to bake us alive.

So… let’s catch up.

🌻 In the Garden

Remember last month when I dramatically announced that my wisteria was dead?

Yeah…

Apparently nobody told the wisteria.

Just when I had accepted its fate, little green shoots started popping up. I walked outside one morning and literally did a double take. I was already planning what was going to replace it, and that stubborn thing basically said, “Not so fast.”

Gardening keeps me humble.

Every. Single. Time.

The green bean arch has finally started looking like what I pictured in my head months ago. It’s filling in, the hummingbirds have been stopping by like they own the place, and I’ve been bringing fresh bouquets inside whenever I can. There is just something about cutting flowers from your own backyard that makes the house feel extra cozy.

And then there’s my peach tree.

Bless her little heart.

She didn’t exactly give me baskets overflowing with peaches this year… but she gave me just enough.

Enough to inspire my Peach Crisp Sourdough.

Funny how things have a way of working out.

🍞 From the Kitchen

If July had a theme, it would’ve been…

“What happens if I put this in sourdough?”

The answer?

Sometimes magic.

Sometimes… not so much. 😂

Making sourdough when it’s over 100 degrees outside is honestly a whole different hobby. My dough has been fermenting faster than I can keep up, Breadie White has been extra moody, and I’ve had to remind myself more than once that perfection isn’t really the goal.

But after a little experimenting, Peach Crisp Sourdough was born… and everyone has absolutely loved it.

It honestly tastes like someone turned peach cobbler into a loaf of bread, and I am not mad about it.

And because I hinted at it last month…

I’m finally sharing my Snickerdoodle Bar recipe below.

These disappear ridiculously fast at our house, so don’t say I didn’t warn you. Just go ahead and make a double batch right out of the gate, trust me!!!!

🤍 Around the Haven

This month The Tailored Haven started feeling… real.

Not because everything is finished.

Far from it.

There’s still a running list in my Notes app that’s longer than I’d like to admit.

But every order, every kind message, every loaf picked up from my porch, every plant that found a new home… it reminded me why I started all of this in the first place.

Little by little, this dream I’ve had in my head for years is becoming something people can actually see.

And that still feels pretty surreal.

☀️ Life at Home

Summer at our house has been exactly what you’d expect.

The boys are eating me out of house and home.

I’m pretty sure I spend half my day watering plants and the other half asking, “Who left this here?”

We’ve been bouncing between baseball try outs, football practice, the park, evenings outside, card shop trips, and trying to squeeze every last drop out of summer before school starts back up.

It’s loud.

It’s messy.

It’s busy.

And honestly…

I wouldn’t have it any other way.

🌙 Something July Reminded Me

I’ve noticed something lately.

The things I’m most proud of almost never happen overnight.

The garden.

Sourdough.

This business.

They’ve all taken way longer than I expected.

There are weeks where it feels like nothing is happening.

And then one day…

You look around and realize how much has actually grown.

Maybe that’s the beauty of slow things.

🌾 Gathered This Month

A few favorites from July…

🌿 My sunflower pants

🍞 The sourdough tools I use every single week

🌸 Fresh bouquets from the backyard

💋 New cool tone products for olive tone skin

🥤 And, as always… an ice-cold crispy Coca-Cola after gardening in 100-degree weather.

This link did not want to work so just imagine its not there in the blue mmmkay!!! I’m kinda hoping the birthday fairy brings me a new laptop. Anything is better than my 2012 dinosaur 🦕 however, I already know what I’m getting for my birthday and I can not wait to show you guys when it’s ready to be picked up 🙈 9/8

🌼 Looking Ahead

August always feels like summer’s last big hoorah before everything starts slowing down.

I’m looking forward to football games, cooler mornings (please, Colorado), pumpkin vines taking over the garden, and baking all the cozy things.

And maybe…

Just maybe…

I’ll finally convince myself to stop planting “one more thing.”

(Probably not.)

Thanks for hanging out with me for a little while.

I’ll see you back here next month.

Little rascals, wave. 👋

xo, Jess
